Digital versus analog: Thoughts from our Content Manager Mary

What a life! It’s like a dream come true, more beautifully staged than any travel commercial. The view breathtaking, with sand between the toes, the frozen mocha oat latte with extra caramel on the table. So this is what Work 2.0 looks like in 2022! So any typing on the PC feels a lot easier when I can spend my lunch break on the beach and not at the kebab store around the corner. Surf cool waves instead of sitting out heat waves at the office.

Wow, sounds like a digital dream come true. The ability to work from anywhere seems to be part of a better working world for many. Well organized, this form of work can also be quite effective and useful. If you don’t have time to come into the office or have to watch the kids, remote work can be a blessing. Of course, working outside the office does bring a few problems with it:

  1. Internet problems
  2. Planning time
  3. Internet problems
  4. The cafe is closed
  5. Internet problems
  6. Laptop battery empty and no power outlet in sight

However, this dream of working from anywhere is not possible for everyone. Let’s face it, not everyone can sit on the beach with a latte macchiato and devote themselves to purely digital work. Would you like a few examples? How about a digital lifeguard who teaches kids how to swim on screen? Not to be imagined. Digital gardeners who want to drive away the weeds with nasty words from a distance? Digital bricklayers who rely on illusions to build their own homes with pure imagination. Dentists who send the drill to your home and give drilling instructions in an exclusive zoom session. Moving helpers who package their perseverance in motivational emails for you. So you can see: many of the most important professions cannot be implemented digitally.

We love digital, yes, but we also love analog. Cheers to the digital possibilities of this time. But at the same time, cheers to all the people who do their best every day in the analog world to make digital opportunities possible for us in the first place. Only together can all this work.
